Hypocritical NBA 'Dream Team'

As we as a nation, and world, have already talked about the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games ad nauseum I think we should now take a look at a topic some people either fail to realize or choose to be blinded to. And that topic is United States Basketball and the 'Dream Team'.

It was just four short years ago that we were in the middle of a so-called pandemic and the riot that threatened to destroy cities across our great nation. People were angry, confused, depressed, and were looking for a way to vent these pent up emotions. Without going into the psychology of crowd behavior we all witnessed the ease with which people were swept up into mass movements. One of these movements was the Black Lives Matters movement following several deaths of African Americans at the hands of police. What side of this topic you fall on is not the purpose of this writing, but it is the way some industries and sports leagues handled the situation...in particular the NBA.

Most people use sports as a way to get away from the stress of their job and what's going on in the 'real world', but that was taken away from us in 2020. No longer could you simply watch a game and cheer on your favorite team while throwing back a cold one, no you were now forced to participate in political debate that was tearing apart our nation. Let's be honest with ourselves though, it wasn't a debate, if you disagreed with the BLM movement you were ostracized. In the NBA this was made very clear early on when the players decided to kneel arm in arm when the national anthem was being played and some even raised a black fist in protest (if you did not participate things did not go well for you). For the next couple of years we heard how evil our nation was and watched the NBA constantly talk about how mistreated they were because of their skin color. Lebron James was one of the players who spearheaded this movement.

Lebron James is the face of the problem with the NBA. He doesn't seem to have a moral compass that guides his decisions, but rather puts his finger in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing and he heads that way. In 2020, we saw Lebron wearing a suit and glasses that were supposed to make him look like Malcolm X. He played the part of the political militant to perfection as the NBA became a movement for social justice.

Now let's fast forward to the 2024 Paris Olympics and check in on our social justice warriors from the NBA. Hmm...something seems to have changed in the last couple of years. Suddenly, I see Lebron James, Steph Curry, and the WNBA players all on boats draped in American flags and chanting 'U-S-A'. They are waiving the flags around with such pride it seems as if we might have just slipped into the multiverse. Could these possibly be the same players that endorsed BLM, The 1619 Project, and the 'peaceful' riots? Certainly not! But alas, they are the very same.

See the problem with people who are celebrities is a lot of the time they have no moral backbone or compass that would point them true north. They're so afraid to lose what they have they will embrace whatever is popular at the time. All you have to do is some simple digging and you will find how these players flip flop on moral issues like BLM, LGBTQ, and many other topics. They're certainly entitled to change their minds, but they do it as if they're a school of fish avoiding a predator...and this is still okay (but very shallow). What's not okay is they have a tremendous amount of influence over our kids and this moral rollercoaster ride they're taking them on leaves them confused and unsure of what is really true. Now we have kids believing a man can have a baby, and just wait for it...in time Lebron James will begin to say gender is fluid just like his boy Dwayne Wade. I would urge all of us not to watch the Olympics until these players explain their change of heart.
